Valletta
Built by the Knights of St. John in the late 16th century, this magnificent cathedral is more than a church—it’s a visual hymn to faith and artistic glory. Its opulent Baroque interior houses Caravaggio’s "The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist," one of his masterpieces and the only painting he ever signed. The cathedral reflects Malta’s sacred role as a spiritual stronghold of Christian Europe.
Vittoriosa
One of the few surviving Inquisition palaces in the world, this building reflects the Catholic Church’s effort to guard orthodoxy in Malta. It served as the inquisitor’s residence and tribunal from the late 16th to the late 18th century. Today, it offers insight into the serious and complex nature of religious governance during the Counter-Reformation period.
Mdina
Known as the Silent City, Mdina whispers tales of Malta’s earliest Christian roots. St. Paul is said to have lived here after his shipwreck. Its winding alleys and medieval walls shelter sacred sites like St. Paul's Cathedral, inviting travelers to slow down and contemplate in the quiet heart of faith that has endured here for millennium.
Modica
Modica is a quaint historic town and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Boasting some very fine Baroque architecture, picturesque views and historic sites, Modica is also known for its chocolate. Rich, dark and crumbly, it is produced in a traditional method imported from the New World by Sicily's Spanish overlords.
Enjoy a chocolate tasting session at one of the most prestigious chocolate makers,
Noto
Noto rose from the rubble of the 1693 earthquake with a divine sense of purpose. Rebuilt in splendid Baroque style, the city stands as a symbol of resurrection. Its crowning jewel, the Cathedral of San Nicolò, was itself restored after collapsing in 1996—an architectural and spiritual rebirth that echoes the enduring power of belief.
Catania
This sanctuary honors a miracle: the 11th-century conversion of a notorious brigand, Dionisio, after a Marian apparition. Set in the scenic province of Catania, this site represents the redemptive reach of divine grace and the enduring devotion of the Sicilian people to the Virgin Mary.
Founded in 733 B.C.
Originally a Greek colony, Syracuse became a cradle of early Christianity. As you walk through the ancient ruins and the Cathedral built atop the Temple of Athena, you’re reminded how the faith took root here, transforming a pagan stronghold into a Christian center of the Mediterranean world.
Syracuse
A modern-day marvel born of a miracle, this striking sanctuary honors a small plaster Madonna that wept human tears in 1953. The emotional power of this event continues to draw pilgrims from around the world to seek healing, hope, and intercession at the heart of Syracuse.
Piazza Armerina
Though not a religious site in the traditional sense, the Roman mosaics here offer a window into the early Christian era. Their intricate artistry shows the cultural backdrop in which early believers lived—one where faith was emerging amid the grandeur of the Roman world.
Agrigento
This expansive archaeological park preserves ancient Greek temples that were later reimagined through the Christian lens. As Christianity spread across Sicily, many pagan temples like these were repurposed or inspired sacred spaces. The Valley tells a story of transformation from polytheism to the Christian faith.
Palermo
Built into a rocky cave atop Mount Pellegrino, this unique shrine honors Palermo’s beloved patroness. Santa Rosalia’s bones were discovered here in 1624, and their procession through the city is believed to have ended a devastating plague. Her sanctuary has become a site of heartfelt devotion and pilgrimage for Sicilians worldwide
A masterpiece of Norman architecture, this cathedral is adorned with golden mosaics depicting biblical scenes in dazzling Byzantine style. The adjacent cloister, with its Arab-Norman influence, evokes the harmony of faith and art. Monreale is a radiant testament to Sicily’s sacred and cultural crossroads
